Problem based Learning – Hawaii Style Workshop

October 24-27, 2017

OVERVIEW

This 3.5 day workshop is designed to provide participants with instruction in the practical applications of problem-based learning (PBL) in the context of a medical school curriculum. Using examples from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine’s 25-plus years of experience with PBL, elements of small-group facilitation, case writing, and assessment/evaluation will be covered.  Instruction will be in English, and conversational English skills are required. Methods will include lectures, discussions, and small group exercises.

The workshop is open to faculty members from international medical schools that wish to learn more about the “Hawaii Style” model of PBL. The target audience will be those with minimal background in PBL. No prior knowledge of, or experience with, PBL is necessary.

 

WORKSHOP FACULTY

Both workshops will be led by faculty from the Office of Medical Education who are actively involved in designing, leading, teaching, assessing and research at JABSOM.

We will accept registration on a first come first served basis until we reach our maximum capacity. Early registration is encouraged.

2. Pay Registration Fee

$1,200 USD.
After your registration form is received, Ms. Kochi will contact you with payment instructions.  The workshop registration fee includes tuition, program materials, daily round trip transportation between a designated hotel (to be announced) and the workshop, Aloha Lunch and transportation to and from the Aloha Lunch.

Optional Aloha Lunch for Guests: Accompanying spouses, family members and other guests may attend the Aloha Lunch for an additional fee.

Payment for guest’s meals must be paid together with your workshop payment.

Payment of your registration fee and optional guest meals are due by Monday, October 2, 2017.

Instructions for payment will be arranged with participants via email upon enrollment confirmation.

 

TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS

Participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements including air and lodging.

CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY (All dates based on Hawaii Time)

Cancellation of participation in any PBL Workshop will be accepted until October 3, 2017 for a full refund**.

Any cancellations received after October 3, 2017 will be eligible for a partial refund**.

**Refunds will be subject to any fees incurred by the JABSOM Office of Medical Education during the refund process.

October 2, 2017:  Registration fee and optional guest meals payment due

October 3, 2017:  Last day to cancel registration and guest meals in order to receive a full refund**
